4 COATS YOU NEED THIS WINTER | Your Style Guide

Screen%20Shot%202020-05-11%20at%209.39.35%20am.JPG

COATS FOR A LIFETIME

After-all, it is a fashion essential we all need!

With all the styles, shapes and colours out there, there are five keynotes you need to take with you when shopping for your next coat:

  1. LOOK FOR ONE THAT SUITS YOUR LIFESTYLE

  2. FIND THE RIGHT CUT FOR YOU!

  3. ONE YOU CAN UTILISE

  4. GOOD QUALITY

  5. TRY AND SEPERATE YOUR ‘ EVERY DAY’ COAT FROM YOUR OUTING COAT.
(No one wants to look shabby on a nice night out!)

I Have put together an informative styling video for you to feel inspired by.
Notice the details I emphasis on, these details are crucial to remember when finding a good coat.

All the coats featured in this video are from a Melbourne based made-to-measure tailor, Godwin Charli.

+

The most important highlight for you to extract from this is knowing that your coat/s should last you more than a couple of seasons. It is winter’s style element that can transform an entire look from characterless to pleasingly polished.

Your coats should be stored and cared for at all times. Keep the day to day coat for your runarounds to work and back. However, invest in a coat that can take you out at night looking finesse.

TIP: Light colours are great, only if you know you can care for it without watching it go stale. Otherwise, no matter how much you invested in it, the coat will be cheapened within days. So no running into muddy streets, keep it chic!

SHOP ALTERNATIVES.

Here are a list of the 4 styles I was recommending in my video. I have selected a range of beautiful colours and cuts, so I am sure you will be finding the right one for you here. Feel free to leave a comment below with any questions.

x COCO LOUISE

TRENCH COATS.

The ever so chic and powerful style that, depending on the fabrication and colour, can take your look from the streets to work even layered above your sheerest dress!

NOTE: If you grab onto the chambray style trench, please note, this is a trendy casual coat. Perfect for the minimalist and not for the corporate office.

+

DOUBLE BREASTED COATS.

Sophisticated indeed.

The double breasted coat can overwhelm your silhouette if you are petite. However, if you aim for this style with a back belt, similar to the one I introduced in the video, SOFIA, then fantastic! This cut is all yours! Make sure it cinches in your waist to suit.

If you are tall, this style is perfect for you even in a boxy shape! For the ladies with hips, the FOREVER NEW fit and flare is your go to!

+

SINGLE BREASTED STRAIGHT COAT.

A long lined silhouette that elongates the look! This cut is sensation on! Also, a charming every day coat!

Easy to edge up with accessories such as :

  • leather gloves

  • a fedora hat

  • mismatched earrings

Or, elevate it with royal tones to take yourself out at night!
This is a classic coat for all occasions and will last for years without looking passé, if you know how to take care of it!

+

BELTED ROBE COAT.

The name itself makes me feel snug and ready for frosty days!

Such an easy coat to layer above most looks, you can even hide your tracksuit beneath and no one will take note! It is an easy way to look stylish when you’re feeling ordinary and lazy. ( Hopefully, this is not something you plan to do on a regular basis!)

Have fun with this coat and style it in different ways. As seen in the above video.

STYLE TIP: Embellish the lapel or belt with brooches, add colourful scarves and textures.

TOP 10 FASHION TRENDS TO SHOP FOR THIS 2020

Most people are struggling with what to buy, what is worth buying and how to style new trends to suit them.

So many trends are out there and a whole lot of "influencers" are influencing the wrong way. Just to clarify on a few things, the photos you are looking at and saving as inspiration are touched up photos or garments that are pinned together. Mostly, something to think about before rushing to buy the “trend” should be “ is this style really ME ?” Or are you buying for the sake of an Instagram trend and a photo to share? It is time to re-connect with yourself and be true to yourself. It is time to unleash that inner style and personality of yours and learn how to incorporate an elegant style to your daily looks. Kardashian style is a style you WILL look back on and feel somewhat, ashamed from. Bedsides, "it is so a few seasons ago"! So ditch the KK look and ask yourself, "WHO AM I?".

Below, I am gladly talking trends with you, the 5 trends that are worth incorporating into your wardrobe and styling to suit you. For personal styling questions and personal shopping contact COCO LOUISE.

3 LOOKS TO TREND THIS 2020

1. SHORTS IN ALL FORMS

A more refined look than bicycle shorts and a blazer. Mini and knee-length Bermuda shorts have been professionally walking down the runways and looking extremely sharp. Seeing fabrics like sequin, leather, twill and tailored make an entry. This trend can cover you for occasions such as a friendly brunch to a work lunch (if wearing a Bermuda cut).

2.CAMP SHIRTS

It is more than just a travel shirt. Camp shirts are trending and the best part is they look stylish with mostly everything. From shorts, trousers, skirts and even denim! The button-down shirt is also Summer's Travel capsule. This piece is one you will need in your wardrobe and know it will last for seasons.

3.DETAILED YOKES & NECKLINES

This is a beautiful element to trend, so much uniqueness one can incorporate to their outfit and look stylish and chic. Find a yoke that suits your silhouette. If you are a "Pearl Shape" steer away from the round-shaped yokes and opt for the narrow and vertical. If you are a "Teardrop Shape" select a yoke with excessive details, such as beadwork, horizontal lines and roundness.

4.EVERYTHING BLUE

It is not just a splash of blue, it is your body wrapped in blue! Blue was a prestigious and expensive colour in European painting. It became a common colour for clothing in the renaissance. And so... here we are 2020, the rise of blue! Embracing it through a variety of textures, Chiffons, denim, leather, sequin, beadwork and embroidery. Light your eyes with the below and happy blue shop!

5.SOFT LEATHER

Vegan or non-vegan, soft leather is a highlighted trend for the season. From drawstring wide-leg pants to body-hugging bustiers. It can take your silhouette through transitioning weather and occasions. It is a textile that can be mixed with all contrasting fabric or in this case another layer of soft layering for power.

6. FRINGING

Here is a trend that is a fad, meaning, it won't last. It is one of those trends that you just cannot wear next season, until the return of the fringe... However, I have personally always loved a dazzling outfit full of fringing. Which is why I have included it. The way a fringe moves with your silhouette is alluring and bold! It adds a contrast of edge and playfulness to ones look. If head to toe fringe is just not you, then opt for a belt that has some fringing or source an item which includes a delicate frayed hem fringe. The styling tip I can suggest is to make sure the fringing is positioned on the smallest area of the silhouette. To be more specific, if the fringing is starting on the widest part of our body, it may exaggerate that part.

7. WRAP SKIRTS

Such a feminine and graceful way to enter Summer in. The wrap skirt is here as a cover-up for the beach, around the pool or to the resort bar. It is also looking elegant as casual or evening wear. Seeing tulip style wrap skirts, high slit wrap skirts and beach wraps. All styles are mostly dropped waist. However, if a drop waist does not work for your shape, high waisted are still around. The mini is great for petite women and the loose midi for those who have room to appear shorter.

8. CAFTAN SHAPED MAXI'S

Caftans are the best travel essentials, but in this case, you can throw your caftan over a sheer chemise like a poncho and head out to the shops or lunch! Another effortless look that is trés chic! Flow with soft textures such as silks, Make sure you have the right shape for you. If you are small chested, grab a high neck, if you are large chested opt for a low plunge V-Neck. Do not forget to include statement accessories!

9. WIDE & LOOSE TROUSERS

An extremely effortlessly cool and chic look. Wide leg and lose trousers may not be for all body shape. However, there are ways to make it work for you. For example, If you are petite, make sure you opt for the cropped version. This look is fresh and comfortable, styles such as a high cinched in waist to a low slung waist are in. Printed trousers and also lustrous silks. If you are wider on the hips opt for a more structured fabric over silk.

Pair these trousers with a heel for height and flats for the long legs.

10. CUT-OUTS

It is up to you how you want to trend this statement detail. In my personal opinion, it can be worn elegantly.... otherwise, some generations will automatically trend this in a gaudy way. If you are willing to give 'cut-outs' a try, find a style that can align with you and your body shape. It can be as subtle as an open cut neckline. This trend may not last, however, can still be worn with class. Remember, do not wear it, if you do not feel it.

MBFWA '19 - DESIGNER HIGHLIGHTS | What To Wear Next

Fashion Week in Australia is still a little conservative. Not as mainstream as O/S. However, I must say I have some favourites this year and can really see a change in style through our culture. It is a beautiful experience to witness the passion behind a brand through clothing and what is created for the runways. Especially when you see the combination of our society & fashion. The highlights for me were the following brands:

AJE

This iconic Australian brand opens fashion week with a collection of captivating tones, prints and details that resemble the Australian native land, it’s oceans, natural landscape and highways. Through patchwork, ruffles, beading and padding, AJE has injected Australia's earthy and natural tones through its splashes of prints. Reminding us of how ethereal Australia really is. An effortless combination of boxy drop shouldered shirts styled with pegged stirrup pants caught my attention as much as the pleated long maxi dresses with mismatched earrings.

All images from Alessandro Viero / Gorunway.com

+

Christopher Esber

Now I was not physically there for the show, but that does not mean I did not sit back in the lounge and admire the sensuality of his collection. Laid back yet detailed. The eye-catching silhouette for me was the rustic tailored suit, the detailed weave on the sleeves and pants were just, somewhat my melt factor. This was also seen on a beautiful loose fitted dress which flared out into pleats. Christopher Esber patched some pieces with contrasting textures and colour, bringing a glimpse of interest to the collection. The under- belly low waist features where surely sensual in the most sophisticated way.

All images from Alessandro Viero / Gorunway.com

+

LEO & LIN

as a matter of fact, this was my favourite show. Uniting a cultural aspect of folklore and past European inspirations from the Victorian Era ( I saw this trend coming…) mixed with the present. This was everything I can relate to in terms of fashion x culture. Strong styling mixed with layers of texture from lace, silk to quality cotton and the movement of cutting edged handkerchief hems with subtle fraying. The collection embodies a romance of power yet warmed the eye with grace.

It is always in the detail for me, and Leo & Lin nailed each garment detail by detail. A pinched-in shoulder with ruching flowing into a soft bell sleeve, to tailored peaked collars and Valentino cuffs, some which were ribbed in symmetry to the waistbands... Subtle pleats inserted through maxi four-gore skirts and mandarin double necklines. This is a just a start to what I call ultimate beauty….

All Images from T.M.EDIT & Leo & Lin

+

Chloe Mottau

Another absolute stand out for me. This designer showcased her collection as part of the NextGen. Immediately I will say, she really is the “Next Gen!”  When it comes to taking part in new brands, you know you will be in for a spin! Fresh and creative minds are challenging, yet powerfully making their way through using unique fabrics, yarns and knits with the ability to take the risk in choosing colour, drape and cuts. Chloe Mottau stunned me with her collection of beautifully natural dyed knits. A Mexican colour scheme which ecstatically flows through the collections loosely fitted layers of track-like pants, asymmetric maxi’s, tunic tops and ribbed high necklines. Open Cardigans and blazers swung by with ultra long and wide sleeves.

+

Matteau

The sophisticated woman who’s image speaks for herself. A tranquil reflection of movement through each silhouette creates an emphasis on demur beauty.  Matteau uses harmonic lines with free-flowing fabrics and a tinge of tassels. High-waisted paper bag dirndl skirts with cropped peasant blouses. A subtle tone of full-bodied, micro-floral print graded its way through bathers, sets and maxi’s which framed a tender soul around the collection. For any time of any day, these looks will leave a mark on your appearance.

+

Let's talk about trends in accessories, I was happy to see one of my all time favourites that I have been exposing for some time now on social media and my YouTube. This accessory is the core difference to every outfit.

+

Mismatched earrings!! I just love the dramatic effect it gives to an outfit. You could be wearing the most ethereal outfit, yet, the mismatched earrings add voltage to the look.

+

Head Scarf, and this time it takes us back to the traditional use of one. Elegantly wrapped around the head knotted around the neck under the chin. Trés Chic!

+

Bucket Hat, this is not for everyone. The bucket hat can either appear very quirky or minimal. It really depends on how you style it. I believe it can portray in a sharp manner. With a crisp button up short sleeve shirt and a loosely fit pegged pants add those mismatched earrings… now you try it!

+

A box-shaped bag or triangle for something different. Held by a short handle these bags can wrap up your look from am to pm. A patent look executes a sleeker image.

What I Wore

+

DAY 1:

https://www.instagram.com/tv/BxYZsfugShj/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

My first thought is to start my week with something meaningful and special. Not what the camera’s want to see but what I wanted to feel. Emotions are very important to me and being able to express my emotions through what I wear is my way of feeling confident and radiant!

I wore a beautiful set that was my mother’s in the ’80s. My mum is my style icon and I always used to admire how she would thoughtfully assemble her pieces together, so delicately with love. Like each item of clothing or piece of accessory was sacred to her. Wow!
I constructed this set with a vintage bow belt from her too.

My accessories were all my grandmothers. She wore these quality snakeskin pumps, accordion box bag and satin gloves in the ‘40s. For me, this is fashion, this is style and this is beauty. Being able to style hand down pieces together from the most influential women in my life is the highlight of my wardrobe. I feel lucky I can fit into these pieces and will forever care for them till I can hand them down too...

+

DAY 1 pm:

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

At the Jonathan Simkhai show, I wore a heavy lace maxi dress, with long sleeves that have a detailed scolloping around the edges and a refined high neckline. The movement of this dress brings a lot of power to my walk, anyone’s walk really! I layered this dress with a satin navy swing jacket which I have designed 10 years ago. The Collar and cuffs are dentelle lace, tying in beautifully with the dress. I brought an edge to this look with my white ankle boots from Bared Footwear and shaped white earrings from Azade Jewellery. I wore this dress because I felt romance when I thought of Jonathan Simkhai. Although, his collection was not merely what I expected it to be.

+

DAY 2:

https://www.instagram.com/tv/Bxa9THygudE/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

I just got my hair cut and I have been feeling inspired by some striking ‘70s outfits hitting the runways in Europe. So I sourced myself a ‘must have’ outfit from a new label in Sydney Ms Hem. Don’t you just love new brands! I do!

A wide leg camel paper bag pant with this statement floral print, tied collar shirt with one of my favourite sleeves, the bell sleeve. I cinched up my classic A-line trench coat’s sleeves to reveal the shirt's details. Now, the fun part is the accessories, I reached out of my International jewellery bag and paired this look with some striking pink/red spaceship earrings from Azade Jewellery, soon to hit Australia. DM me for more info.

I couldn’t believe I spotted a very similar shaped bag which is a prototype from Hills & West, oh my goodness when I first laid eyes on that bag in her showroom, no one, not even the talented designer Aisha, could stop me from wearing this! Delicious, I think you all need one.

Now, I know I have injected red, pink and white with my accessories. However, if you closely look at my shirt, you will see fine lines of green and that is where I tied in my leather bottle green pumps from another incredible Australian brand, Ashley Lim.

+

Day 3:

https://www.instagram.com/tv/BxdkEXvAEiA/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

I love this look because I am and always have been a fan of Peaked collars and Valentino cuffs. I layered this detailed Leo & Lin shirt dress with an A-line swing coat from their SS19 collection. Because I am petite, I chose to remove the sash from the waist of the coat and tied it beneath the collar to give me that extra height and elevate the look. My mismatched, layers of bangles and necklace were all from the talented designer, Susie Driver. My wow factor of the outfit was incorporating that touch of rouge, from the added strap on my Hills & West Luna bag and also my patent soft square-toed ankle boot from Ashley Lim.

+

DAY 3 - pm:

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bxeaaijg6ZL/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

This was for a men’s wear show, I did do the obvious and wear a suit yet brought a difference with my styling. How? I incorporated statement earrings from Susan Driver ‘70s style of necklace and kept those layers of bangles, I wore those all week actually. :p The best part was including my Voodoo illuminating hosiery, black with bronze sparkles throughout which blended in with my eye-catching copper loafers from Ashley Lim. I held onto the Lenny Belt bag from Hills & West in white and also detached the strap from another Lenny bag as my belt. Sometimes, we need to think a little outside the box to add a difference to our style.

+

DAY 4

https://www.instagram.com/tv/BxgKXi3gLrU/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

Leo & Lin lace maxi is back, yes, I wore it again but differently. This time I chose to layer the dress with a red chunky sweater from Ms Hem. I love this look. Knits with maxi’s, or pleated midi skirts or pencil skirts. Superfine and relaxed. I wore my Bared stitched cowboy boots with Voodoo socks peeking through the top. My look felt effortlessly cool with a mix of  European fem. Topped it off with accessories from Susan Driver, Hills & West Lenny bag and through above my shoulders a vintage, reworked leather jacket by One Of A Kind Denim - Hand-painted print by Sarah Darby.

That is all for now, What was your favourite collection and look?

THE LAST SHOW | KARL LAGERFELD FOR CHANEL FALL WINTER 2019

"Clothes are nothing unless they are worn."

Karl Lagerfeld

An opening of a farewell, the crowd & models were still, taking a moment of silence while respecting and remebering the legendary man himself, through his recorded voice, Karl Lagerfeld.

This actually brought tears to my eyes as you can feel purity, elegance and passion in the air and through his last collection. Imagine what it would have been like to actually be seated at the dome of the Grand Palais.

In his last collection, he brought back what he always had presented, elegance and in retrospect to Gabrielle Chanel, comfortable tweed suits. Opening the show like the traditional Chanel with tweed skirt suits. He had Cara Delevingne marching through with a tweed set of wide-leg pleated trousers and a strong grace of a herringbone coat layered above.

This collection has an abundance of sophistication. A runway full of long beautiful tweed coats, ruffled organza blouses tucked in high waisted wide leg pants. Nordic knits and knee-length skirts that were nipped in at the waist. An array of high necklines and wrapped neck scarfs beneath silky hair slides. Yes, there was leather and long trailed capes gathering snow from beneath... this was a winter wonderland of a glistering end to a talented legacy and beginning of a new chapter... Chanel will go on.

RESORT WEAR 103 . FIND THE PERFECT HAT FOR YOU.

SWIM WITH A BRIM .

Who doesn't love a tanned face, shoulders and chest? Yup, I do!! Thankfully my skin is a little more tolerant to the sun than fair skin. However, it is still pretty dangerous for olive skin to be sitting long hours in the sun without protection too. I love wearing a hat in or by the pool.

How to select the right style hat for you:

Baseball Caps ⇢ Casual Chic
Tucker Caps ⇢ Super Cool
Visors ⇢ Very Sleek

How To Style The Boater Hat | Spring Staple

I have added a mini selection below of styles that I personally adore and you should too.

Which one suits your personality? Shop it and let me know by commenting below.

VISORS:

If you don't like hat hair, then let us start with the ever so stylish Visors! These are brilliant and easy to pack in a bag, especially the roll up straw ones. The wider the brim, the more protection.

If you were to purchase a style like Dior's visor, you can be sure you will be wearing this with a linen shirt and skinny jeans or even with a puff sleeved dress and bright orange lips. Mmmm J'adore! ♡

CAPS:

Caps are not just for blokes you know. If you are feeling a little more "bad ass" then grab yourself a New Era Tucker cap. What I like about the first one is it acts like a tucker but has the shades of a lady. ( If you get what I am saying!)

If you haven't noticed, the soft leather Versace hat is on sale! Yes ladies and it is so worth it! I mean the colour screams chic and you will have this forever!

As you can see below, I recently trended the boater hat, actually I did nearly everyday of this Summer 18/19! The beauty of any brimmed hat, whether it is wide, narrow or floppy is that they can be any style you want them to be. You can wear it with an edge, or tilt it delicately off your forehead. Depending on the shape of your face and of course the style you are going for. If you are going for a more feminine look, a floppy hat is more dainty as it has softer edges.

FLOPPY HATS:

ALMIGHTY TURBAN

I love saving best till last, just like my food! 😜

As many of you already know, I am a lover for turbans, It connects me to my Eastern roots and brings me nothing but joy seeing many women out there trending it as much as they have started to trend silk scarves in their hair... Actually, my very first YouTube video is a Turban Tying video, yes I need to re-film it as it is quite old. Wow, I actually have come a long way since...

Anyhow, here it is and below that are some luscious styles of already made turbans that you can slip on and trend from day to night.

P.s The Missoni Mare styles are a great bargain! DO IT and make me proud!

RESORT 102 • How To Black With A Clash.

Colour To The Mix.

Yes we all love black!! It is flattering and super easy to style and does not need any thought really. But how about adding a pop of brightness to it and perhaps some print?

"Don't fear a mix of print or colour, embrace it."

Coco Louise
First is first, all back clothing.

Are you heading to a place where you can enjoy a cocktail then a dip in the pool or vice versa? Then find a minimal black one piece. Pair this beauty with either black shorts, a black mini skirt or even a black maxi skirt. Culottes are cute too!

Because black is minimal:

You can add whatever colour you wish. I chose a striking coral.

You can choose lilac, cherry red, orange, pink, sky blue ... anything your heart and mood desires.

I love coral or orange with animal print, which is why I chose OPI, Hot & Spicy nail polish.

OPI: Hot & Spicy ; Earrings: Azade ; Perfume: Roberto Cavalli

Alternatively, here are a selection of colours I would go for:

What about adding a print to the look?

When choosing to mix prints:

Focus on two different prints that have something in common. Perhaps a colour or a shape. Please please please do not choose two different animal prints. Example a Zebra bag and Leopard shoe!

Here are some mix & match options for you to pair with your above outfits:

Resort Wear 101

CLASSY, ALWAYS CLASSY!

What is the first thought or sense that comes to you when you think of a Resort?

When I was a little girl travelling with my family around parts of Australia, we used to stay in these beautiful resorts and I used to get so excited dressing up to head out for dinner after a day of swimming at the pool.

Whenever I think of a resort now, my first scent is chlorine, funny but I love that smell now. ( Not if its in my tap water though!) The second thing I think of is, of course, beautiful resort wear, keeping it chic, always chic!

For example sandals instead of thongs. I do not care if thongs are "trending" at the moment, that is just a FAD. Ditch the thongs! The third thought is a peaceful dinner by the pool or around nature, appreciating the scenery with a " healthy looking" tan!

While I was in Townsville, I enjoyed heading to the local resort for a few days by the pool, this Resort was a great flash back to my child hood. One of my outfits was as simple as these paper bag shorts with a cotton embroidered bralette I luckily found in a local multi-brand store called STELLAR MODA.

Earrings: Azade ; Bralette: Wildfire ; Shorts: Luvalot ; Kitten Heels: Zara

I paired this look with my new kitten heels from ZARA. Now, I usually do not like to support fast fashion, however, if I do find a piece or two that I truely love, I will buy it. But my passion is to support local and independent brands, hoping to inspire others to appreciate them too.

My leather gold purse is from a talented Australian brand called HILLS & WEST and my earrings, which are from a young designer based in Beirut, Lebanon, AZADE. The accessories are stylish, contemporary and handmade jewellery made of plexiglass. These pieces are unique and when added to a simple outfit, VOILA, you have a stylish and interesting one! I love including independent brands from around the world, incorporating east & west into one! It is like connecting the world through style.

Kitten Heel: Zara ; Earrings: Azade Accessories

Below are few outfits I have worn and trended in Townsville's beautiful resort, The Ville. You can also shop similar looks that I have carefully curated for you... Enjoy.
